How To Replace Lost Keys

Please see below our quick and simple video on how to replace lost keys.

How to drill a lock

Sometimes, there's not enough information to find the right key. In this case, you can drill the lock which should destroy it without damaging the furniture. You can then send the lock into us for match up and supply a replacement.

Drilling open a filing cabinet lock requires the right tools and safety precautions. You'll need an electric drill, cobalt or titanium drill bits, safety goggles, a center punch, hammer, flathead screwdriver, and pliers. Begin by wearing safety goggles and inspecting the lock. Use a center punch and hammer to create an indentation in the center of the lock cylinder, guiding the drill bit.

Start with a small drill bit (1/8-inch or 3/16-inch), drilling slowly and steadily into the lock cylinder. Increase the bit size if needed, continuing until you feel the resistance lessen, indicating the pins are destroyed. Use a flathead screwdriver to turn the lock; if it's still stuck, use pliers to remove any remaining lock parts.
